Mirpur: The Ropyal marriage hall situated in Chakswari, District Mirpur collapsed resulting in injuries to sixteen people and thirty two still feared trapped under the debris.
The renovation work was going on three floors of marriage hall when all of sudden whole building collapsed. As per information received from district administration at least 50 people were inside the marriage hall including the owner Nadeem Hussain Ropyal and his son Raheem Ropyal.
As soon the incident was reported the authorities along rescue teams of civil defence,Rescue 1122 and fire brigade from Mirpur City responded to the emergency call and started the rescue operation.
The Chief Commissioner Mirpur along with police authorities visited the incident site and gave necessary directions to the rescue workers.
The locals informed that the rescue teams arrived an hour late as the nearest rescue response units are in Mirpur which is 50 Kms away. The locals bashed the district authorities for late response and said that they had demanded the Government to set up a rescue response unit in Chakswari but the demands were not given heed.
Later that day, A contingent of Army and police reserves was also dispatched to the area to help with the rescue operation and to disperse area residents which gathered on incident site violating the SOPs.
Rescue workers are still engaged in efforts to remove the debris and rescue people trapped under the rubble.
